[FWO] Weave 2024
Het FWO heeft opnieuw een oproep geopend in het kader van het gezamenlijk bottom-up cross-Europees initiatief Weave – Research funding without borders.
In oproep 2024 kunnen onderzoekers in Vlaanderen samenwerken met partneronderzoekers die ontvankelijk zijn bij ARIS Slovenië, DFG Duitsland, FNR Luxemburg, Formas Zweden, F.R.S.-FNRS Franstalige Gemeenschap van België, FWF Oostenrijk, NCN Polen en/of SNSF Zwitserland.
Aan FWO-zijde is het Weave initiatief volledig geïntegreerd in het kanaal van de reguliere junior/senior projecten voor fundamenteel onderzoek.
Procedure in een notendop
Onderzoeksconsortia kunnen vrij kiezen waar ze hun project indienen:
Indiening van de gezamenlijke projectaanvraag bij het FWO (FWO als Lead Agency)
De tijdslijn voor evaluatie van de volledige projectaanvraag en de modaliteiten (bv. budget) en ontvankelijkheidscriteria van het Vlaamse luik volgen de regelgeving van de junior/senior onderzoeksprojecten fundamenteel onderzoek. Indiening gebeurt via het FWO e-loket gebruik makend van het specifieke aanvraagformulier ‘Research project WEAVE (FWO acts as Lead Agency)’.
Deadline: 2 april 2024 (aangezien 1 april 2024 een feestdag is)
Interne UGent-deadline: 15 maart 2024
Let op: naast de indiening van de volledige aanvraag bij het FWO dient er per betrokken Weave land/regio nog een VERPLICHTE administratieve indiening plaats te vinden bij de betrokken niet-Vlaamse/buitenlandse onderzoeksfinancierder.
Indiening van de gezamenlijke projectaanvraag bij een andere financierder dan het FWO (FWO als Partner Agency)
Indiening gebeurt bij een niet-Vlaamse/buitenlandse financierder waarbij een van de buitenlandse partners ontvankelijk is. Voor meer informatie over de modaliteiten en deadlines per partner, zie deze webfiche
Let op: naast de indiening van de volledige aanvraag bij de niet-Vlaamse/buitenlandse financierder, dient de Vlaamse promotor-woordvoerder nog een verplichte administratieve indiening te doen bij het FWO via het FWO E-loket, gebruik makend van het specifieke aanvraagformulier ‘Research project WEAVE (FWO acts as Partner Agency)’. Belangrijk: in de tab ‘project’ dient men de volledige en identieke aanvraag met alle bijlagen (niet enkel de projectomschrijving) op te laden zoals ingediend bij de Lead Agency (pdf-formaat). Let ook goed op dat zowel de aanvragers aan Vlaamse en niet-Vlaamse zijdes als het aangevraagde Vlaamse budget ingediend bij de Lead Agency identiek zijn aan hetgeen wat in de administratieve indiening bij het FWO wordt ingediend.

The FWO informed us that it has launched again a call within the framework of the joint bottom-up cross-European initiative Weave – Research funding without borders.
In call 2024 researchers from Flanders can collaborate with partner researchers eligible for ARIS Slovenia, DFG Germany, FNR Luxembourg, Formas Sweden, F.R.S.-FNRS French-speaking Community of Belgium, FWF Austria, NCN Poland and/or SNSF Switzerland.
At FWO side the Weave initiative is entirely integrated in its channel for regular junior/senior projects for fundamental research.
Procedure in a nutshell
Research consortia are free to choose where they submit their project:
Submission of the joint project proposal at the FWO (FWO as Lead Agency)
The timeline for evaluation of the entire project proposal and the modalities (e.g. budget) and eligibility criteria for the Flemish part follow the regulations of the channel for regular junior/senior research projects for fundamental research. Submission needs to be done through the FWO E-loket using the specific application form ‘Research project WEAVE (FWO acts as Lead Agency)’.
Deadline: 2nd of April 2024 (since the 1st of April 2024 is a holiday)
Internal deadline Ghent University: 15 March 2024
Within the framework of Weave, researchers who are eligible at the FWO, can submit at the FWO a joint bilateral or trilateral project with researchers from Germany (DFG), the French-speaking Community of Belgium (F.R.S.-FNRS), Luxembourg (FNR), Austria (FWF), Poland (NCN), Slovenia (ARRS), Sweden (Formas) and/or Switzerland (SNSF).
Please be aware: besides submission of the entire application to the FWO, for each involved Weave country/region an obligatory administrative submission needs to be done as well to the involved non-Flemish/foreign research funder.
Submission of the joint project proposal at another funder than the FWO (FWO as Partner Agency)
Submission needs to be done at a non-Flemish/foreign funder for which one of the foreign partners is eligible. For more information on the modalities and deadlines for each partner, see this webpage.
Please be aware: besides submission of the entire application to the non-Flemish/foreign funder, the Flemish supervisor-spokesperson needs to do an obligatory administrative submission to the FWO through the FWO E-portal, by using the specific application form ‘Research project WEAVE (FWO acts as Partner Agency)’. Important: in the tab ‘project’ you must upload the complete and identical application with all attachments (not only the project description) as submitted to the Lead Agency (PDF format). Furthermore, make sure that each applicant involved at Flemish and non-Flemish sides as well as the requested Flemish budget submitted to the Lead Agency are identical to what is being submitted to the FWO in the administrative submission.
