Jura
In Jura, Kluwer's legal database, you will find many Belgian legal journals and publications, as well as both Belgian and international legislation and case law. You will aslo find a number of compilations and models as well as the Commentaries on Articles there. Jura is available both in Dutch and in French.
Access
Jura is available both on campus and off campus. You can only use the link in the catalog to access the database. Logging in with your Ghent University account at lib.ugent.be is sufficient to access Ghent University-only collections from home or on the go.
Are you still having trouble accessing Jura? Then try the following:
- Try a different browser than the one in which you are having trouble accessing Jura (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge).
- Clear the cookies and cache of the browser you are using to access the site. You can do this by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of your browser and then selecting ‘Clear browser data’. This option can also be found under ‘Settings’ > ‘Privacy and security’.
- The Lean Library extension in your browser may also cause problems. You can disable this extension by going directly to https://jura.kluwer.be/ (not via the catalog) and then disabling the extension for this site in the Lean Library pop-up.
- The problem may also be caused by the Zotero reference manager. It may automatically try to give you access to Jura via the wrong route. To disable this option, you will see a yellow bar at the top of your browser. On the right-hand side, you can click on the first option ‘Do not proxy this site’ to ensure that Zotero no longer redirects you incorrectly.
Searches
You can use the search bar at the top to start a search query. In the search bar itself you can already filter by information type and branch of law to refine your search. In the results list you can further filter by classification (with a very fine subdivision of keywords), author, journal or book. Per information type (legislation, case law, legal doctrine, models, news) there are specific filters you can use to refine your results.
The specific keywords associated with an item will be shown in the overview of that item on the left. You can use those afterwards for further searches.
You can easily search by the date of a court decision in the search bar to find what you are looking for.
Tips
- All documents you have access to through Ghent University can be downloaded and printed.
- You can compare laws with earlier versions. Both texts are then displayed side by side and the differences are indicated.
- Related documents at the bottom of an item's page provide useful links to other documents that may be relevant (e.g. the link to a specific ruling commented on in an article).
