De FWO-oproep voor een bilateraal onderzoeksproject met China (NSFC) staat open. U kan een aanvraag indienen voor financiering van fundamenteel onderzoek in de volgende disciplines:
- Wiskunde en fysica
- Chemie
- Life sciences
- Aardwetenschappen
- Ingenieurs- en materiaalwetenschappen
- Informatica
- Managementwetenschappen
- Gezondheidswetenschappen
Looptijd projecten: 3 jaar
FWO Projectbudget:
- Personeels- en werkingskosten: 45 000 – 85 000 EUR per jaar/project
- Uitrusting: maximum 150 000 EUR per project

Informatiesessie over oproep en kennisveiligheidsbeleid 25 april (14:00)
Opgelet: het FWO werkt momenteel aan de uitrol van een kennisveiligheidsbeleid. Dit beleid is gericht op het voorkomen van ongewenste overdracht van kennis en technologie naar derde (niet-EU) landen. Kennisoverdracht is ongewenst wanneer deze de veiligheid van de EU en haar lidstaten kan aantasten, wat het geval kan zijn wanneer de kennis later wordt gebruikt voor de ontwikkeling van militaire technologie of voor militaire doeleinden in het partnerland. Kennisveiligheid verwijst ook naar het risico dat kennis en technologie later worden misbruikt om fundamentele waarden/mensenrechten te onderdrukken of te ondermijnen. Dit kan het het geval zijn wanneer technologie later wordt gebruikt voor interne repressie, mass surveillance, discriminatie, ...
Als onderdeel van dit kennisveiligheidsbeleid is het niet toegelaten een projectvoorstel in te dienen in samenwerking met Chinese instellingen die behoren tot de Seven Sons of National Defence.
Deze oproep fungeert bovendien als pilootoproep om een nieuwe vragenlijst in het aanvraagformulier rond kennisveiligheid te testen. Het streven is om deze kennisveiligheidsvragenlijst op te nemen in alle oproepen vanaf eind 2025. Bovendien zullen hoogrisico oproepen een bijkomende veiligheidsgoedkeuring moeten bekomen. Gelet dat de FWO infosessie slechts anderhalf uur duurt, organiseert de UGent onmiddellijk na de FWO infosessie een extra online bijeenkomst, op 25 april van 15u30 t.e.m. 16u30. Tijdens deze online sessie kan je al je vragen stellen in verband met het nieuwe FWO kennisveiligheidsbeleid, inclusief de nieuwe vragenlijst en de implicaties hiervan op jouw onderzoeksproject.

- Information session about the call and FWO knowledgde security policy: 25 April (2pm)
FWO will give more information on its latest China Call on 25 April between 2PM and 3.30PM. During this session, FWO will also elaborate on its new 'knowledge security policy' which will be introduced with this China Call, and which will be part of every FWO funding application from the end of 2025 onwards.
The knowledge security policy is aimed at preventing the unwanted transfer of knowledge and technology to third (non-EU) parties. A knowledge transfer is unwanted when it might affect the security of the EU and its Member States, which might be the case when the knowledge is later used for the development of military technology in the partner country. Knowledge security also refers to the risk that knowledge and technology are later misused to suppress or undermine fundamental values/human rights, which might be the case if technology is later used for internal repression, mass surveillance, discrimination, ...
To ensure knowledge security, FWO will no longer fund projects with certain partners, projects which are considered too risky from a knowledge security perspective, or projects that do not have measures to mitigate a knowledge security risk.
Due to their strong ties with the Chinese military and defence industry, scientific cooperation with the Seven Sons of National Defence is not allowed in all FWO funding schemes.

Given that you might still have some questions on FWO's knowledge security policy and it's implications after FWO's information session, Ghent University will organise a 1h meeting in which you can ask all the questions you have in relation to this new knowledge security policy.
